Day 29 - AEDM & Nablopomo - Bird of Paradise

I've not been well at all today and I think it shows in my sketch below as, by late afternoon, I found it very hard to concentrate.

Earlier in the day, I painted these words on MDF board which I had previously painted white. It's going to be a backing board for a piece of art my 24 year old son recently completed as a gift for a friend.  Beau asked me to paint the words because he felt I'd be more steady-handed than him.

My sketch in three stages

Pencil-free sketch using Pigma Micron pens, Derwent Inktense water-soluble pencils and Uniball Signo white pen in my Moleskine pocket watercolour sketchbook.

  5. Your hand was steady and it looks great! I hope we get to see Beau's artwork on here, too.

Sounds like you need to just have it done. I was forced by pain and blood to have mine, but it was the best thing! If I had known how much better I was going to feel I wouldn't have fought it so hard and had it done much earlier.

You picked the perfect spikey subject for a painful day. The sketch looks great!

I hope you get a date set soon and get it over with, sweetie! I hate to know you are suffering like this. :(

  10. I hope you start feeling better soon. But I love your sketches I know you say they are not the best but I don't find anything wrong with them. I think because you are not feeling well you feel that you are not putting your best effort into them. Perhaps after a bit of painting you will feel a bit more calm inside.
    Take care

  11. Hi Serena, even on a bad day, your drawings and writing are lovely. I hope your back pain has subsided. I was to go to the doctor tonite to check on my ankle again but decided to skip. It's been 3 weeks and I know it just takes time. I would say it is about 90% now. Love your little teapot in the previous post. So cute! Have a wonderful Wednesday. Tammy

  12. Hi Serena. Love those journal pages. I really like the way you put so much emotion in your drawings and your words fill the page with somber thought. Thank you for sharing and please feel better.

  18. I am having another go at the inktense this morning so fingers crossed that I can get something working... as to the bird of paradise... I painted them for like two weeks last year... one after the other and never really got tired of them... thinking it may be time to revisit them... fingers crossed I can get them looking as good as these do...xx

  24. Thanks for the love and support, everyone.

Lynn - for the writing on the white board, I used a short liner brush 10/0 and acrylic paint in a colour I mixed up to compliment Beau's art. Not sure if it shows in the pic but it's actually a deep blue colour.

  25. Your handwriting is beautiful Serena.

I know having a hysterectomy can be a daunting thing to face. I had to have one without anytime to prepare myself for it. I was able to keep my ovaries so I still have natural hormones performing their magic tricks on certain times of the month. :) I was 40 then and now at 43 on the verge of 44, I don't regret it one bit. There's a website I found really helpful called http://www.hystersisters.com/.

Well I'll end this obnoxiously long comment with a big hug and sincere wishes that you feel better!

    Warmly,

    Tracy

  27. Hi Serena, your bird of paradise is lovely.
I have a couple of friends who have said that their hysterectomy was the best thing they ever did, got rid of all their related problems. I hope it is this way for you if you have to have one.
    Take care
    Lee:)
